Because in truth, getting to know someone and to fully plumb the depths of a relationship is much more profound than simply categorizing an individual by a limited and superficial (or just plain old wrong) criteria. It takes work and a sustained commitment. But to fully invest in the experience of our shared humanity, there's simply no other way. This is a great letter/essay.
