As long as an exploration of the meanings of cancelled, cancelling event, and cancel culture feature early on in this substack, I think things will sort out more cleanly. I have a friend who (understandably) avoids using any of those terms because of how ill-defined they are. I have my reasons for still using them on occasion, based on my own internal set of definitions, but it could be valuable for there to be a more thorough examination of these to make way for an appropriate and standard way to use these terms.
