That was interesting. Does anybody know why? Why now has America decided to push this attitude so blatantly right at this moment in time? I saw in the 60's when the police would teargas student protestors on campuses who were against the war in Vietnam. Even then they were trying to discourage opinions by forcing the people to riot so they could crack heads. Now 50 to 60 years later they are pushing that agenda again. Little dick aka tRump wasn't in the picture back then but still the government wanted to control the opinions of those in higher learning. What has made it so imperative that they get it done this time? Why did it become necessary to clamp down on freedom of expression now? Is there a reason that the government wants to institute a dictatorship style of governance now? So many questions. Sorry, but I think academics should find out. I know religion is a big deal in the States, especially of the white evangelical kind. Is it just bigotry rearing it's ugly head again? Though America has never been able to cover up their bigotry very well even in the past. Pissing off it's allies and befriending it's enemies is stark contrast and yet people aren't as upset as I would have expected them to be. Maybe it's been slowly eroding Americans ability to feel that they are already stifled, as you say self-censorship. That strikes me as very like Russia. Everybody knows the government is lying to them but they just nod their head and carry on as if they believe what they're hearing even though they don't.
